Dan and I had dinner with Kevin last night. It was marginally better than the time before, but there was this distressing revelation as we were talking about movies:
Me: Have you seen "Chicken Run"?
Kevin: No, but I hear it was good.
Me: You should. It was great.
Kevin: (makes a face)
Me: What?
Kevin: It has Mel Gibson in it.
Me: So? It has Mel Gibson's voice.
Kevin: Mel Gibson is a crazy right winger. I don't want to support him.
Ohhh my god. Politics has evidently seeped into movie selection--and I mean even beyond the Noam Chomsky documentaries. Dan agreed with me that this was a little ridiculous--if a movie is good, you should watch it. I hate Russell Crowe, but I saw "Gladiator" and "A Beautiful Mind." The way I see it, these people already have oodles of money, and your $8 at the theater or $3 at the rental store isn't going to make a whole hell of a lot of difference.
Oy. Seriously, people...
I am tutoring Aaron at 11 this morning, then waiting anxiously for "Harry Potter." If we can drag ourselves away from it, tonight Dan and I will go see "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory."
